Volunteer Spotlight
Meet Rachael Mackenzie
Having recently joined the St Andrew’s Volunteer team, I was honoured to be among my fellow volunteers to help at this year’s Breast Care Luncheon held at the Adelaide Oval. I had the opportunity to see first-hand how the Breast Care team gave back to its patients by offering a lunch to celebrate those women who had undergone, or were currently having breast treatment at St Andrew’s in the past two years.
I spoke to many women and their partners along with vendors who had been invited to showcase products and services which help patients navigate post-breast cancer treatment.
There was a wonderful sense of camaraderie as women from around the state came together, some for the first time, to meet others who were going through a similar life changing experience.
I watched them listen avidly to the wonderful speakers who spoke with dignity and respect about alternative treatments and lifestyle options working hand in hand with traditional cancer protocols.
All in all, an inspiring day of celebration, community and care for those who deserve it most.
