Running for Wellbeing: 3 Ultra Marathons to Support Cancer Patients

In the first half of 2026, I’ll be taking on three ultra marathons to raise vital funds for a new hospital wellbeing centre dedicated to supporting people living with cancer. This centre is more than a space — it’s a sanctuary. Alongside essential medical treatment, it offers experiences that nurture the mind, body, and spirit: from mindfulness sessions, yoga, and sound meditation to creative outlets like painting and flower arranging, cooking classes, and gentle walks in nature. There’s even a cosy library where patients and families can pause, breathe, and connect.

As a wellbeing consultant and ultra runner/hiker, I understand the deep connection between movement, mindfulness, and recovery. Cancer treatment takes an enormous toll not only on the body but also on emotional and mental health. Activities that bring calm, joy, and connection help to restore balance and hope — elements that are just as crucial to healing as medicine itself. Research shows that when people feel supported, connected, and cared for, their resilience grows, their stress levels drop, and their overall wellbeing improves.

Every step I take during these ultra marathons will be for those facing one of life’s toughest challenges — a reminder that strength takes many forms. Together, we can offer essential services and activities where patients and their families can find peace, purpose, and community alongside their medical care.
